The City of Yankton reminds property owners that public sidewalks are to be kept clear of snow and ice. Property owners who have snow covered sidewalks adjacent to their property need to make arrangements for snow removal within 24 hours after a snowfall

Snow removed from driveways, sidewalks or parking lots cannot be placed in the streets.

Singles Dance

Immunization Clinic

Goldenrod Hills Community Action will hold the Hartington Immunization Clinic on Thursday, March11th, from 11:00 am. to 2:00 p.m. at the VFW Club, 126 E Main St., Hartington. For an appointment please call (402) 529-3513. Goldenrod Hills Community Action will now be offering the Pneumovax vaccine. This vaccine is offered to persons 65 years of age and older, and persons 19-64 years of age who are immunocompromised and have chronic medical conditions. We will offer this vaccine at our public clinics for a $40.00 fee.

H1N1 Clinic

North Central District Health Department (NCDHD) will hold a free H1N1 flu vaccine Community Clinic at the Tilden Public Library, located at 202 South Center Street in Tilden on Thursday, March 11, 2010, and will operate from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. The Health Department will offer the H1N1 flu vaccine free of charge to all people.

WILD Business Expo & Craft Show

The Antelope County Resource Center will be presenting the 'WILD Business Expo & Craft Show' on March 13 at the Neligh-Oakdale High School in Neligh. WILD stands for "What I Like to Do!" Would you please enter it on your events page and in your on-air listings. I've attached our flyer and a news release I sent to the local papers. Following is a brief excerpt from that release:
The Expo will run from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. and there will be business seminars throughout the day. One session “Building a Business in Tough Times” will feature a panel of business owners that have each started their business within the last year. There will also be a fashion show, hands-on demonstrations, Make-and-Take projects, Nebraska Authors corner, Spa Spot, business information booths, craft booths, food, plus a whole lot more!

Concert

The Bethel University Wind Ensemble from St. Paul, MN, will be in concert at Calvary Baptist Church, 2407 Broadway in Yankton, SD on Saturday night, March 13, at 7:00 p.m. as part of their 2010 Midwest tour.
The Wind Symphony, under the direction of Dr Steven B. Thompson, is Bethel University’s premier instrumental music ensemble. Comprising 64 woodwind, brass and percussion musicians, the ensemble draws student from across a broad spectrum of academic disciplines through the university.
The Wind Symphony’s tour programs are known for the uplifting musical experiences they provide to audiences of all ages. The group’s skillful and energetic performances as well as their crowd-pleasing repertoire make each program an unforgettable event. The ensemble’s varied musical selections are chosen from the finest traditional and contemporary works for symphonic band.

Singles Dance

The Yankton Social Singles are sponsoring a Singles Potluck and Dance on Saturday, March 13, 2010, at the Yankton VFW, 209 Cedar Street, Yankton, South Dakota. Taverns and table service will be furnished for the 7:30 pm potluck meal; guests are asked to bring a side dish or snack to share. The Clay Creek Deaf Cowboy Band will be playing for the 8:00 pm dance. Dance admission is $8 per person, with $1 toward a cash drawing. Mixer and specialty dances will be held throughout the evening. All area singles and alumni are welcome.

Book Club Meeting

The Yankton Community Library’s evening book club has changed their meeting time to accommodate those who would like to join a book discussion before heading home for the evening. The group will meet the third Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m., beginning on March 16.

This month’s discussion will be the book Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi. This is “a memoir about teaching western literature in revolutionary Iran, with profound and fascinating insights into both.” Books are always available at the library for anyone interested in joining the club.

SPRING FLING BINGO PARTY

The Bloomfield VFW Aux. is excited to invite you to the 2nd annual Spring Fing Bingo Party. The Men’s Ministry Team of Calvary Baptist Church invites you to their second free movie Date Night for couples on Saturday, March 20. The newly released film No Greater Love will be shown in the Worship Center. Last year’s event which featured the movie Fire Proof was attended by hundreds of people from the area. No Greater Love tells the compelling story of a couple who have a second chance to experience their first love.
The evening will also include a drawing for a Free Family Life Weekend to Remember that will be held in Sioux Falls, SD, November 12-14, a $258 value. Babysitter Class


March 20th 2010- Yankton, SD
Yankton County Red Cross will be offering the American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training Class on Saturday, March 20th from 9:00 AM – 2:30 PM. The purpose of the Babysitter’s Training Course is to provide youth, ages 11-15, who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. This training will help participants to develop leadership skills; learn how to develop a babysitting business, keep themselves and others safe and help children behave; and learn about basic child care and basic first aid.  The class fee is $30 which includes class materials and a first aid kit. Belgian Waffle Feed

Plan to attend the Hartington, Ne Ambulance Belgian Waffle Feed that will be on March 21st from 8:30am- 12:30pm.  It is all you can eat and they will serve waffles, sausage and drinks.  It will be at the city auditorium with take out available.  Adults are $6.00 and kids K-6th are $4.00.  All are welcome to attend.

Celebration

On Sunday March 21st the Volin Gayville Horizons Steering Committee will be celebrating the successful completion of the process to receive the Horizons grant. The celebration will take place in the Volin City Hall. The celebration will start with a FREE dance workshop from 4-530 pm taught by Sandi VanderWal and the Yankton County Drifters. They will be teaching the Electric Side, Silver Wings and 16-step. The workshop will be followed by a FREE supper and a NO COVER CHARGE dance with the The Outback Band. There will be various booths to display projects that are being worked on in the community to improve our community and address issues of poverty in our community. Some of these projects include developing a local food bank and addressing hunger in the community, improving communications within our community, providing culture and recreation for children within our community through classes and trasportation. SD History Program

Yankton Community Library, Yankton College and the Dakota Territorial Museum have partnered to bring a series of programs on one of the most fascinating chapters of South Dakota history, one-room country schools. Get a sense of these yesteryear institutions that were scattered across the state from the late 1800s to the mid-1900s by attending these informative, entertaining and nostalgic presentations.
The Dakota Territorial Museum on Saturday, March 27, 12 – 4 p.m. will host a social for students and teachers of one-room country schools to share their memories of this different educational era. The schoolhouse on display at the museum will also be open for tours. Call 665-3898 for more information

Antique Critique Show and Tell


March 27th 2010- Osmond, NE
The Northeast Nebraska Resource, Conservation, and Development (RC&D) Council is planning its first Antique Critique Show and Tell later this month. The event will be held on Saturday, March 27th at the Osmond City Hall from 10am to 3pm.
People are invited to bring their crockery, glassware, coins, furniture, toys, and other antique items to the event in order to learn their estimated market value. A volunteer panel of professional appraisers will be available to provide pricing estimates. A nominal admission will be charged.
The Northeast Nebraska RC&D is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization that assists with local projects that promote business growth, economic development, tourism, conservation of natural resources, and much more. The RC&D helps turn local ideas into reality.

Bird & Small Animal Auction Fundraiser

The Bloomfield Ruritan Club is holding their spring bird and small animal auction on March 28th at the Bloomfield, NE fairgrounds.  Consignments will be taken at 7am and the auction will begin at 10am.  A large variety of birds, small animals, pets and equipment is expected at the auction.

Polar Plunge


April 18th 2010- Yankton, SD
2010 Polar Plunge!  Freezin' for a reason.  Take the plunge on April 18th at the Lewis and Clark E. As part of a class project at USD we are holding an Earth Day event (April 22nd) on the USD campus. There will be food, raffle, live bands, 5k run, and more. All the proceeds will go to the South Dakota Wildlife.
